Museum Assistant Position

The Gadsden Arts Center & Museum Museum Assistant’s primary role is Visitor Services, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors. The Museum Assistant also assists as assigned with projects such as research, writing, and editing for marketing and education, event planning and setup, art activity planning and facilitation, report compilation, and data entry. Application review begins May 31, 2021. Only complete applications will be filled. Position(s) open until filled. A Level II background check will be conducted.

Part-Time Position: 7 hours/day, 1-3 days/week 

Hourly Pay: $11 per hour 

Schedule: 9:45am-5:15pm with 30-minute lunch break, 1-3 days/week 

Reports To: Professional Department Head (daily), Executive Director (overall)

Education Museum Assistant Position

The Museum Assistant’s primary roles are Visitor Services and developing and facilitating art activities in the ArtZone. At Visitor Services, the Museum Assistant creates a welcoming environment for all visitors, while assisting with assigned projects like data entry, research, writing, and editing for marketing, exhibitions, and education. In the ArtZone (the museum’s drop-in art studio), the Museum Assistant helps create art projects inspired by museum exhibitions, books in the children’s art library, or other general art projects for all ages, but particularly ages 5-13. In the ArtZone, the Museum Assistant also prepares materials, helps children and their families complete art projects, and cleans and sanitizes furnishings and equipment. Museum Assistants also occasionally assist with event setup and breakdown. 

Overall, Museum Assistants must be knowledgeable about Gadsden Arts history, facilities, exhibitions and programs, and maintain knowledge of all GACM policies and procedures as they relate to the performance and duties of this position and perform other duties as deemed appropriate by the Executive Director.

Gadsden Arts is seeking to fill 2-3 Museum Assistant positions at the museum, with 1-3 available workdays, which will be set on a regular schedule. Though the overall schedule is subject to some change, the Education Museum Assistant is a one day per week position that will be required to work Saturdays in the ArtZone. Additional days as Museum Assistant, with a primary Visitor Services focus, may be available, and would potentially be Tuesday-Friday (Museum closed Sunday-Monday), with focus areas in museum administration, and exhibitions & collections.
