Currently I am a volunteer intern at the Gadsden Art Center & Museum.
As a Master of Fine Art Student at Florida State University, the Gadsden Arts Center & Museum is the nearest accredited museum beside MoFA FSU. I invest my time at the Gadsden Arts Center & Museum because I am interested in learning how museums function as a whole. As an intern at the museum I am able to observe all of the smaller parts that work together to keep the organization running smoothly. I've also been able to examine the artwork on exhibition very closely learning about the background of accomplished artists such as Purvis Young, O. L. Samuels, Mary Proctor, Dean Mitchell and others.
The Gadsden Arts Center & Museum is extremely important to the community because it provides them a top of the line art exhibition experience. If not for Gadsden Arts the local community wouldn't have an accredited museum to engage in. The museum showcases artists that whose creativity is inspired by not only Florida's regional culture but also the world abroad. Ultimately the museum is an educational experience for whom ever steps foot inside. Gadsden Arts also provides art classes for the youth, which is so important, as we all know children are the future.
The latest exhibition, FOUND: Southern Vernacular Art & Gee's Bend Quilts was extremely inspiration to me as an artist, student, and observer. The use of mix-media and found objects to create fine pieces of art struck me as genius. Learning about the history and journey of each artist in the show was very informative. The way the artists interpreted the world around them was very original for each artist and overall very thought provoking.
Help us bring the magic of art to our community!
